Deal Town unveil the signing of former Hythe Town goalkeeper Henry Newcombe
DEAL TOWN coach Steve King has unveiled the singing of former Hythe Town goalkeeper Henry Newcombe.
The 24-year-old has previously played for Wycombe Wanderers, Canvey Island, Margate, Folkestone Invicta and Chatham Town before making the switch to Reachfields Stadium to play for the Isthmian League South East Division club.
However, with highly-rated James Tonkin unavailable next season, King has snapped up Newcombe, who will play for his home-town club next season.
“As soon as we knew Tonks wasn’t going to be able to commit this season, Henry was our number one target and we are pleased to have brought him into the club,” said King.
“We knew Tonks would leave big gloves to fill but know that Henry will certainly be able to do that.
“As well as being a very good goalkeeper, Henry also fits into the profile of player we like to bring into the club. He is a local lad, ambitious and has vast experience of playing at higher levels.
“He believes in the plans for the club moving forward and we are pleased he is going to be a part of it.
“He already knows a lot of the lads and we look forward to seeing him in a Hoops shirt this season.”
Deal Town finished in fourth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table last season.
However, the club have lost the services of winger Troy Howard, 20, who has signed for Isthmian League Premier Division side Margate.
Jack Paxman, Sam Gibson and Sam Wilson have also departed the Charles Sports Ground.
Meanwhile, Andy Crush (manager) and Marc Richards (coach) will be in charge of Deal Town’s newly-formed reserve side next season, competing in the inaugural Southern Counties East Development League.
