Charlie Dickens has left us on amicable terms, says Deal Town boss Derek Hares
DEAL TOWN manager Derek Hares has been busy in the transfer market within the opening week of the Near Year.
The Hoops have signed defender/midfielder Steve Baines from Canterbury City while Charlie Dickens has signed for his home-town club Ashford United.
Hares told www.dealtownfc.co.uk: “We put in a seven-day approach for Steve after he said he wanted to sign for us. He is a good utility player who should fit in well.
“As for Charlie, Ashford are his hometown club and he’s left us on amicable terms.”
Baines made his Deal Town debut in Tuesday’s 5-3 defeat at Ashford United in a hastily-arranged friendly after both club’s fixtures were postponed at the weekend through waterlogged pitches.
Deal’s goals came from Charlie Walsh (2) and Michael Yianni while Kristin Gregory made his first-team comeback after being sidelined for three months by a knee injury.
Deal Town host Erith Town at the Charles Sports Ground on Saturday, but Hares warned “To be honest I can’t see the game going ahead if we have much more rain.”
Deal Town have climbed up to fourteenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table on 21 points from 18 games.
The Hoops are currently five games unbeaten.
