Davies quits Deres' to seek fresh challenges
ERITH & BELVEDERE joint-manager Chris Cosgrove is delighted to have persuaded much-travelled striker Ross Cable to join the Park View Road club, writes Stephen McCartney.
The 25-year-old striker has been snapped up from their Bulmers Cider Kent League rivals Tunbridge Wells, where he scored 19 goals.
An out-and-out striker, Cable has scored goals at former clubs Faversham Town, Thamesmead Town, Beckenham Town, Croydon, Erith Town and Rusthall.
And Cosgrove, speaking to www.erithandbelvederefc.co.uk, is hoping that the striker continues to find the back of the net at Park View Road.
“Ross is a player that we’ve been tracking for quite a while,” said Cosgrove.
“He’s a quality player at this level and can turn a game with one piece of magic and I’m absolutely thrilled to have signed him.
“I’m looking forward to working with him. I’m sure our supporters will enjoy seeing him in the blue and white shirt of the Deres.”
When asked about other possible comings and goings at the club, Cosgrove says talks are taking place with a number of players.
He said: “I don’t want to comment on players who may or may not be coming or going. I know the players I want to stay and I know the players I would like to join us.
“But until something positive happens, there’s not much to say."
But Cosgrove did confirm the departure of assistant manager Gary Davies, formerly of Sevenoaks Town.
“Gary has left the club on good terms after deciding that he needed a fresh challenge, and we would like to wish him good luck with his future career,” added Cosgrove.
The Deres, now in third place in the Bulmers Cider Kent League table - six points behind leaders Hythe Town after eighteen games - travel to Vandanel Kent County League leaders Orpington for a much delayed Kent Senior Trophy tie on Saturday - subject to pitch conditions, obviously.
