We've got to get that winning mentality back, says Dartford boss Tony Burman

DARTFORD manager Tony Burman says he wants to get a winning mentality back at the club.

It has been a miserable two and a bit seasons for the Princes Park faithful, having finished in the relegation zone in the then Conference two years running before being relegated to the rebranded Vanarama National League South at the end of last season.

The Darts travel to Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday sitting in fourteenth-place in the table, having won four, drawn three and lost six of their games.

Bishop’s Stortford go into the game sitting in 11 place, having won six games, drawn two and lost five of their games.

Dartford claimed a point in a 2-2 home draw against Hemel Hemstead Town last weekend, while Rod Stringer’s side came away from Eastbourne Borough with a 1-0 victory.

“We’ve seen Stortford play and they’ve had a good result on Saturday,” said Burman.

“We know it’s going to be a bit difficult but hopefully Saturday’s performance and getting something from the game – against all the odds to be fair – will put us in good stead.

“We’ve not been poor. We’ve been reasonable I think in the games. The magic formula is to put the ball in the back of the net.

“We’ve created a lot of chances, unfortunately on a regular basis we haven’t put the ball in the back of the net.

“We’ll overcome that but we knew they was going to be spells when it was not going to be quite right for us but we’ve got to get on with it and get that winning mentality back and hopefully we can start that on Saturday.”

Dartford were left shell-shocked when they were dumped out of The FA Cup Third Qualifying Round by Uxbridge and Burman admitted the club are still reeling from the defeat.

“It’s difficult. Sometimes getting knocked out of The FA Cup is a major blow and it’s hard to get back out of that but at the end of the day we’ve got to just keep plugging away.

“People have got to realise what we’re trying to do and where we are at the moment and we’ve got opinionated before and always opinionated after but for 90 minutes at the back let’s just get behind the boys and give them as much help as we can.”
