DARTFORD manager Steve King has agreed a new three-year contract to stay at the National League South club.

The new contract will see the former Welling United boss remain as the clubs first-team manager until the end of the 2023-24 season.

“When we brought Steve King in 18 months ago we knew the calibre of manager we were getting and a person who we felt confident would have us chasing for promotion in the National League South with the overall aim of being promoted to the National League”, Dartford's co-chairman Steve Irving told the club website.

“However, no one could’ve forseen what has happened over the last two seasons with the Covid-19 pandemic and with all the distruptions that have taken place and we feel this had robbed Steve of realising his full potential and the promotion we all strived for.

“However, in this time though Steve King still managed to lead the team to a play-off final where we unfortunately lost on penalties, then last season got stopped when we were in second place.

“I was very confident if it had carried on we would’ve been in those top positions all the way to the end of the season.

“We felt it was the right time to re-negotiate his contract and it will give the whole club the stability it requires to have a real push for promotion, in hopefully what will be uninterrupted seasons going forward and some sense of normality with the crowds back in the stadium and right behind Steve King and his players”.
