Dane Luchford follows older brother Justin to Horsham
Tuesday 02nd August 2011
HORSHAM boss Justin Luchford has unveiled younger brother Dane as one of his summer signings from his former club Faversham Town, writes Stephen McCartney.
Justin Luchford was unveiled as the Hornets’ manager during the close season and he swiftly appointed coaches Hugo Langton and Richard Langley from Thamesmead Town and Ramsgate respectively.
Luchford has enticed only two Kent based players (Kane Rice and Dane Luchford) to join him at the west Sussex club, who are planning for Ryman Premier League survival.
“I’ve known Kane for a while and he seems to have been around a long time but he is still only 22,” Luchford told www.hornetsreview.co.uk.
“He came back from a bad injury the year before last and played for Dover in the Conference South for 14 games last season.
“Kane again has a great attitude and I am looking forward to getting him going this season.
“Kane is a wide player and has an eye for goal. He got one on his debut for the club and I have set him a target of 10 (goals) for the season.”
It was no surprise that Dane would follow his brother to Horsham.
“Dane was pretty much ever present for me during my time at Faversham and last season finished joint top scorer and easily the top “assister,” said the Horsham boss.
“He was unproven at that level and proved a few people wrong and now he makes the step up again.
“Dane is treated the same as all the rest and, in more cases, gets a harder time than most but that’s natural. Dane felt a little let down by the management team after conversations in the summer. He had a decent season and yet the budget was given to others rather than him. He had a few offers in the summer and they were a lot more than he had had before but he wanted to give it a go at the next level.”
Luchford will return to Kent when he brings his Horsham side to Whitstable Town next Tuesday, 9th August (8:00pm). The match against the Oystermen replaces their trip to Maidstone United, which has been cancelled.
A statement from the Stones, which was published on www.maidstoneunited.co.uk said: “The club has been advised by our landlords Sittingbourne FC that ongoing floodlight maintenance work cannot be guaranteed completed by the time that this fixture is due to be played.
“Therefore, regrettably, we have taken the decision to cancel the game with Horsham at the earliest opportunity to allow both clubs the chance to make alternative arrangements for this date.”
