Daish wants transfer window scrapped

Friday 27th January 2006

Gravesend & Northfleet have today completed the loan signing of striker Mark Rawle from their Nationwide Conference rivals Woking until the end of the season, reports www.gnfc.co.uk

Liam Daish, who takes his side to one of his former clubs, Cambridge United tomorrow has signed the striker, who was a member of Boston United’s Conference winning side, before he joined Southend United for £60,000 in February 2001.

He made 69 league appearances for the Shrimpers before joining Oxford United in June 2003. He started a total of 79 matches in the league, scoring 23 goals.

However, last season Rawle had a brief loan spell at Tamworth before joining Kidderminster Harriers in February 2005.

He signed for Woking in the summer of 2005 and started the match between the Cards and the Fleet on Bank Holiday Monday.

Daish, meanwhile, says the transfer window is doing conference clubs no favours, and he would like it scrapped for clubs in his league.

He is hoping to add to his squad before tomorrow's game with Cambridge United but he's frustrated at having to do all his transfers in a month in January.

"It's okay if you're one of the big boys with a bit of money but at this level clubs survive on transfers in and out. It keeps seasons going and I don't think its worked out the way it was expected or intended," he said.

Daish has said his team need 11 more wins this season out of 18 games left to make it into the Conference play-offs. It's some ask, especially when this weekend they travel to former league side Cambridge United.

Daish told BBC Radio Kent he hasn't experienced a league ground yet as a manager, and knows the home side will have a decent crowd behind.
