I thought we’ve done well lately and our league form has put us back in with a chance of keeping in the mix, says AFC Croydon Athletic boss Kevin Rayner

AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC boss Kevin Rayner says the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division promotion race is not cut and dried.

The Rams have won their last three league games and are knocking on the door of the promotion race.

Sevenoaks Town remain top with 43 points in the bag from 18 games, a point clear of Beckenham Town, who have played two games more.

Crowborough Athletic and Whitstable Town follow on 39 points from 20 games, followed by Deal Town (38 points from 21 games), while AFC Croydon Athletic are in sixth-place in the table, just six points adrift of Sevenoaks Town.

Rayner’s side host Whitstable Town to Mayfield Stadium on Saturday, a game classed as a real six-pointer.

“I would have thought both sides are looking forward to Saturday’s game, it’s a top six clash and both teams are strong sides and would both expect to win the game,” said Rayner.

“I thought we’ve done well lately and our league form has put us back in with a chance of keeping in the mix.

“The game on Saturday and the following months, games will pretty much determine who’s going to be challenging this year but I still think it may be a lot closer than one or two think.

“We will need to keep our good run going and have a good February. We are in good spirits and will do all we can to keep that momentum going.

“There’s not much between many sides this year and we are hopeful it will be our day on Saturday but expect a really tough game.”
