CROWBOROUGH ATHLETIC manager Sean Muggeridge has pulled off a summer transfer coup by signing midfielder Lee Carey.

Carey spent the second half of last season playing for relegated Ryman Premier League club Lewes, where he made 16 appearances after signing from Tonbridge Angels, where he made over 60 appearances during an 18-month stay at Longmead Stadium.

“Lee is the type of player that ticks all the right boxes that I and the club have been looking for, he’s vastly experienced, very talented and is a natural leader on and off the pitch,” Muggeridge told the Crows website.

“He’s the type of person who’ll get on with everyone in the dressing room and for a player who has played so many games at the level he has the right attitude to training and playing.

“Lee is still very ambitious himself which impressed me when I spoke to him and it was clear he wanted to play for a club that wanted to improve as well, therefore, I know he’ll not only be an asset to me, the management team and the squad but will be a player our fans will look forward to seeing week in, week out.”

When asked why he has signed for the Southern Counties East Football League club, Carey replied: “Having spoken with Sean over the last few days it was clear that the club has ambitions to improve on and off the pitch and there are definite plans in place to ensure that happens.

“I am still ambitious myself and feel that I have a lot to offer on and off the park, plus it was clear that Sean really wanted me to be part of this project and help the younger players within the squad develop and improve.

“Having met with Sean and Tony (Bowen), they sold the club to me and I personally can’t wait to get started in pre-season training and for our first competitive game.”

The Crows finished in seventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League last season.
