Cray Wanderers FC: We remain passionately committed to delivering our goal which has always been to create a sporting facility for Bromley and the community
CRAY WANDERERS planning decision is to be reviewed by the Secretary of State Greg Clarke.
Bromley Council originally gave the Ryman League club the green light to go ahead to build a new stadium at Flamingo Park in April, only for London Mayor Sadiq Khan to block the move in a cruel u-turn.
“We are pleased to say that the Secretary of State, Greg Clarke, has now called-in Cray Wanderers’ planning application for Flamingo Park to determine the decision after Sadiq Khan had recommended to London Borough of Bromley to refuse the scheme,” said a club statement.
Further to Bromley Council’s approval of the scheme, committee chairman Peter Dean added: “The irony of this latest twist is not lost on us and we remain comfortable with our decision.”
Local MP, Bob Neill, who has supported the club’s application throughout, added: “This is a real boost for Cray Wanderers’ application. It means that it will now get a fair and unbiased hearing before an independent planning inspector and would also suggest that ministers and officials at the Department for Communities and Local Government share the concerns of us have raised that the Mayor of London has overturned this application for the wrong reasons.”
The club have been advised to anticipate a date for the enquiry shortly and to get a decision within six months.
“We understand the frustration this has caused our 14 teams, parents, community scheme and supporters alike, but remain passionately committed to delivering our goal which has always been to create a sporting facility for Bromley and the community,” added the club statement.
It remains to be seen whether League One club AFC Wimbledon suffers the same problems with their new stadium at Plough Lane – or does Sadiq Khan, who claims to be a Liverpool supporter despite being born in London, only pick on smaller non-league football clubs but with one with a big heart.
Cray Wanderers WILL win their biggest ever battle!
