I still believe I could play a vital role in any team in the Ryman North or South or indeed the SCEFL, says free-agent striker Leigh Bremner

LEIGH BREMNER has revealed the reasons behind his exit from Cray Valley.

The 33-year-old quit Ryman League Division One South club Cray Wanderers in the summer to drop down a level to play for newly-appointed James Collins at Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side Cray Valley.

“The reason for leaving The Wands was purely because Tony (Russell) didn’t offer me the same deal as I had the year before and what was on the table didn’t justify my time and effort,” said Bremner.

“I signed for Cray Valley as they offered me a very attractive deal meaning I could spend time at home with the family.

“After signing for Cray Valley I started off really well, scoring six goals in six games. Then I got injured, unknown to me I had fractured my foot.  I carried on playing for five or six games then had an x-ray, which didn’t reveal a break, so carried on only to find out I had indeed broke my foot.”

Bremner scored a goal in each of Cray Valley’s back-to-back wins over Bearsted, adding: “I didn’t play until last Saturday (7 January), which I scored in, then played midweek and started to enjoy my football again – only to find out that Cray Valley didn’t want to honour my original agreement regarding wages so I decided to leave as I felt I had been let down by James and the club.

“Regarding the rest of the season I would like to kick on with a new club. I still believe I could play a vital role in any team in the Ryman North or South or indeed the SCEFL, obviously depending mainly on how far I have to travel to play.”

The Gillingham based striker works for Royal Mail, adding, “It’s early morning so easy enough to get away for football. Also with the help of my partner and family are able to get the kids’ looked after, if needed.”

Cray Valley are in eighth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division with 41 points form 23 games and are 10 points adrift of leaders Crowborough Athletic.

Bremner scored 10 goals for Cray Wanderers last season while the club were playing in the Ryman League Division One North and  scored eight goals in 12 games for Cray Valley before his exit.
