I’m a great believer that fitness will get you an extra 10-15 points a season, which of course is a big plus come the end of the season, says Cray Valley boss James Collins

CRAY VALLEY manager James Collins says he’s taking a small squad to Dagenham for his first game in charge of the club on Saturday.

The Millers parted company with Paul Gross after two seasons and Collins left Lordswood to take charge of the Eltham-based club.

Collins guided Lordswood to a personal best of a fourth-placed finish in the Southern Counties East Football League last season, while Cray Valley finished six places lower.

Collins first game is against Essex Senior League outfit London Bari in unfamiliar surroundings.

He said: “First game on Saturday against London Bari.   We have had six sessions now so really just can’t wait to get a game in.

“Pre-season has gone really well.  The players have been working really hard.  I’m a great believer that fitness will get you an extra 10-15 points a season, which of course is a big plus come the end of the season.

“The players have responded and have taken on board everything that has been asked of them.

“We will probably take a squad of 16 over to Dagenham as we have another game on Tuesday against Glebe (at Foxbury Avenue, Chisleshurst), so we will try to get players as much game time as possible.”
