When you create a culture of winning and success as we have done over the past few years, we are all a little underwhelmed with our league position and are working tirelessly to improve our standing, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding
CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding says he expects a completely different Sevenoaks Town team to rock up at Gay Dawn Farm this afternoon.
The Oaks arrive on a five match losing run but former Glebe manager Harry Hudson took charge last Sunday and Golding is expecting a new-look opponent.
Centre-half Danny Divine has left Greatness Park to re-sign for second-placed Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side Sheppey United, while midfielder Ben Davisson has departed for Snodland Town, in fourth-place in the First Division.
Who has arrived and departed will be much clearer when the team sheets are handed in to the match referee at 14:15, as Hudson said yesterday that he was keeping his "gunpowder dry" in regards to new players.
“The Sevenoaks game, on paper, looks like a game that we should be going into as favourites, but the reality is very different,” said Golding.
“Sevenoaks will be coming here with a vastly changed side, which makes it incredibly hard for us to be as prepared as we would like for the match.
“The reports we have had are that Harry and Sevenoaks have recruited some very exciting players this week and I am sure under his guidance that Sevenoaks will move away from the relegation zone and there will be a few sides in the bottom half anxiously looking over their shoulders at their progress in the next couple of weeks.
“Harry did a fantastic job at Glebe and everywhere he has managed and I am looking forward to catching up with him at the game.”
The Oaks have picked up 23 points and are just one point clear of the relegation zone in the Isthmian League South East Division.
Golding has guided Corinthian to eleventh-place in the table, with 38 points with 11 games remaining, in their first full season at this level.
“A win could potentially take us back into the top half, having been stuck in eleventh-place for what feels like an eternity,” added Golding.
“Our league form is relatively positive at the moment and we just need to keep chipping away and putting as many points on the board, to first and foremost secure our safety in this division and then try to progress up the table as far as possible.
“Everyone we speak to says how well we have done this year and what an achievement it is for a team with no money to be competing in this league and I suppose when you look at the size of the clubs below us and the financial backing most of these clubs have, then on that front we have achieved well above what could be expected of us.
“However, when you create a culture of winning and success as we have done over the past few years, we are all a little underwhelmed with our league position and are working tirelessly to improve our standing.”
