We continue to punch above our weight in the division, says Corinthian boss Michael Golding

CORINTHIAN manager Michael Golding says he wants to break the clubs record points total this season.

The amateur side from Longfield are sitting in fifth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division, having banked 50 points from 32 games and host ninth-placed Deal Town at Gay Dawn Farm tomorrow.

Golding said: “Tomorrow we face Deal Town for the fourth time this season due to our FA Cup draw and replay, back at the start of the season in August.

“We are yet to beat Deal this season, with two draws and a defeat, so we will be looking to put this right and at the same time, ensure Deal stay behind us in the league table, as they are one of the teams chasing us for our current fifth-place position.

“Deal have impressed me in each of the games we have faced them in this season and I am sure tomorrow will be another hard battle to secure the points.”

The Hoops went down to a 2-0 home defeat to promotion chasing Crowborough Athletic but bounced back with a goal-less draw at Cray Valley.

“The Easter weekend saw us come away with one point out of a possible six and although disappointing on the face of it, the point gained at Cray Valley for me is a very positive point,” said Golding.

“The Crowborough game was disappointing and despite a better second half performance in which we dominated territory, it was a comfortable win for Crowborough and the key players we had missing through suspension and injury probably played a part in the below par performance.

“The Cray Valley performance was a lot better. Cray will probably feel as though they should have won having dominated possession and hit the post twice, but we also feel that we contained them, allowing them to have the ball in areas they were not going to hurt us in and controlled the game through a solid disciplined professional performance, at the same time having a couple of very good chances ourselves, that we feel we should have taken.

“One more win sees us beat last years points total and we will be looking to achieve this as quick as possible and then look to surpass the 59 points which is our best total in this division.

“In my opinion we continue to punch above our weight in the division and this is testament to the squad of players we have and the hard work and effort they have put in throughout the season.”
