CHATHAM TOWN manager Kevin Watson has unveiled the signings of defenders Kes Metitri and Chris Hill.

Watson and assistant manager Keith Levett are preparing for life in Ryman League Division One North, after the club received a relegation reprieve after finishing second from bottom in Ryman League Division One South last season. Metitri, 27, is a highly-rated defender and a product of West Ham United and Bristol City and has previous played for Team Bath, Chippenham Town, Cirencester Town and Yate Town.

He appeared frequently for Bristol City’s reserves as well as representing the English Universities side whilst at Team Bath.

Watson, who has previously played for Team Bath, was thrilled with the signing and he told www.chathamtownfc.net: “Kes is always a player I have admired since playing and training full time at Team Bath.

“He has received a very good football education which combined with an admirable attitude towards the game, makes him an ideal acquisition to the current squad.

“When I heard he had moved back to the South East, I quickly contacted him, and I’m delighted to confirm his registration with us for next season.  He’s athletic, good in the air and comfortable on the ball. He can play in a number of defensive roles”.

Metitri added: “I’m looking forward to playing for Chatham Town this season.  Kev contacted me about coming down, and explained where the club is going.  We have started pre-season training and I’ve been very impressed with the calibre of players.   There is a great atmosphere amongst the squad already”.

Central defender Hill joins the Chats from Beckenham Town, and is an exciting prospect.

The former Thamesmead Town and Bromley youngster, Hill has also played Kent League football for Erith & Belvedere, but after a serious of impressive performances last season for Beckenham, Hill came to the attentions of Levett, during his time as Sevenoaks Town’s manager.

Levett said of the former Beckenham skipper: “When myself and Kev sat down close season to discuss players we would target, Chris was on the list.  Other clubs had also contacted Chris, but we are delighted that he has chosen Chatham Town.

“Chris has a good physique and is a cultured player.  He is a good personality in the dressing room with leadership qualities that has often earned his the arm band at previous clubs”.

Chatham Town begin their pre-season campaign with an away game at Kent Senior Trophy holders, Erith Town, on Saturday 23rd July (3pm).
