Chatham Town begin search for head of youth and junior football

Wednesday 24th November 2010
CHATHAM TOWN manager Paul Foley says he wants his side to pick up some good form going into the festive period - starting with Saturday’s home clash against Fleet Town, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Medway side are sitting in sixteenth place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 21 points from 18 games and Foley wants his side to get back on track.

“We had four really encouraging games for different reasons picking up 8 points from 12, look like we are on the right track again and then we follow that up with two very poor results,” Foley told www.chathamtownfc.net.

“That is hugely frustrating for everyone and is symptomatic of our season so far unfortunately as we have not hit a consistent run of form.

“We had a very close and entertaining draw against the top side Leatherhead who have scored heavily against sides this year, won a tough game at Whyteleafe, took the first points off a dangerous Met Police side and then beat a decent Burgess Hill.

“We had new signings coming in and doing well and it all looked very positive. We are not silly enough to think it was all sorted as this game gives you a kick up the knackers when you think that, but we did think we were going the right way.

“We then played Faversham midweek and started the game really well, had some very good chances that we didn't take, gifted them a goal and faded out of the game.

“It was a similar story against Godalming when we were much the better side for half an hour, had some good chances but then conceded two very poor goals late in the half. The same lad ran unmarked from midfield into the box to score all too easily. To let players go like that is criminal at any level and we won't tolerate that sort of 'luxury' play.

“Football is not all about the times you have the ball, you must be good without it too. We need to get back to being difficult to play against and break down as we were a couple of weeks ago. With this mindset we are hoping to get back on track again in the four games leading up to Christmas.”

Fleet Town arrive at Maidstone Road sitting one place higher than Foley’s side with 21 points from 15 games.
