Chatham Town 3-1 Molesey
Gavin Schulz returned to the starting line for Chatham Town after recovering from the gash he suffered at Dover last month and didn’t take long to get on the score sheet on Saturday, writes Neil Sanders.
The opening quarter produced several chances and a 25 yard shot from Steve Best brought the first save of the day from Molesey keeper Chuck Martini.
Chatham opened the scoring after 12 minutes when Schulz found the net with a clever back heel flick from a Darren Smith corner.
Molesey equalised two minutes later with a curling long range free kick from Jay Richardson, which bounced just inside the far post after deceiving everyone in the Chats 18 yard box.
However, Shane Suter restored Chatham's lead in the 22nd minute when he found the top corner with a superb chip from just inside the visitors area.
The second half produced more chances at both ends and Molesey came close to equalising on more than one occasion.
Phil Ruggles hit the bar with a header and Richardson's low shot brought the best save of the match from John Whitehouse.
At the other end James Holder forced Martini to tip a header over the bar.
The visitors continued to pressure right to the end of 90 minutes and kept the Chats defence busy.
The result was always in doubt until stoppage time when quick break for Chats caused some confusion in the Moles defence.
Mark Brooks took the opportunity to take the ball round Martini and slot into the open net after it had got stuck under the keeper's feet.
This result means Chatham end the season in 16th place after becoming one of the divisions form sides in the last month, with six wins from their last nine games.
On Tuesday night Chatham will be hosting a testimonial for Garry Tilley with a number of former Chatham players coming along to take on a Charlton Athletic XI. Please note kick off for this match is 7.30pm.
