It's going to be a very physical kind of contest against Corinthian, says Chatham Town boss Scott Lindsey
CHATHAM TOWN manager Scott Lindsey says his side are ready for a physical battle against Corinthian in The Buildbase FA Vase Fourth Round on Saturday.
The Chats welcome fellow title challengers Corinthian to Maidstone Road with a place in the last sixteen up for grabs.
It has been a rewarding last couple of weeks for Lindsey’s men, having beaten their title rivals Sheppey United (3-2) and Beckenham Town (2-1).
Beckenham Town host Sheppey United at Eden Park Avenue in the league at the weekend.
Beckenham Town sit at the top of the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 46 points from their 20 league games.
Corinthian are in second-place in the pecking order with 43 points from 21 games, followed by third-placed Sheppey United with 42 points from 20 games and Chatham Town are in fourth-place with 40 points from their 21 league outings.
“We’re training twice this week on Tuesday and Thursday and we’ll look at a few clips from the Beckenham game and get ourselves prepared. I pretty much know what the team is in my head already,” said Lindsey.
“It’s going to be a difficult game. Corinthian are up at the top end of the table for a reason. They’re a good side but at the moment we’re full of beans. We’re confident that we can get something from them.
“I think it’s going to be a very physical kind of contest. I think they’re quite direct and physical and they’ve got some good players as well. They’ve got some players who can score some goals. They’ve got players in midfield who can score some goals, they’re a good side.”
When asked whether he would rather walk Chatham Town out at Wembley Stadium or win promotion back into the Isthmian League, Lindsey replied: “Promotion, because that’s where the club’s going! The club is going in a direction where we have to kind of go through the leagues to get to where we want to get to.
“Wembley would be a great day out for sure and it would be an amazing day out for the town and for the club but in 10 years’ time, it will never be forgotten, the Wembley trip, but in 10 years’ time we want to be at a level where we can be proud off and in order for us to do that we have to win leagues.”
