Thursday 30th March 2006

Southern League Division One East club Chatham Town have signed new STRIKERS for next season.

After talks with the Maidstone Road outfit, Joleen Sture, head coach at the Medway Cheerleader and Dance Academy, based in Lordswood, has joined ventures with the football club and will be supporting them next season and hopefully for many more to come.

“I think it is really important for local ventures to get together and to bond, keeping the community spirit together,” said a club statement.

“It will benefit Joleen and her team by being able to perform in front of an audience, hopefully improving the gate and keeping the waiting fans entertained before and during the home matches.

“Chatham Town Football Club would like to congratulate Joleen and her team on their achievements and would also like to show them their appreciation in this new venture for next season.”

Head coach Joleen Sture has been teaching since the age of sixteen. In 1996 she studied Physical Theatre and Dance at Salford University. She carried on with other dance qualifications through the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) gaining associate and membership status.

The Medway Cheerleading and Dance Academy has been established since 1998, studying ballet, tap, freestyle, theatre craft and cheerleading.

In season 2000-01 Gillingham Football Club held tryouts for a new cheerleading squad.

This is where GForce began. After the first tea the choreographer left, and Joleen Sture took over. They stayed at Priestfield Stadium for two and a half seasons.

In previous years they have entered the British Cheerleading Association (BCA) Competitions.

In 2003 GForce entered the Loughborough Nationals an were placed, which put them through to the Internationals, ad again they were placed. The squad was up against teams from Europe and America.

Medway Rockets and Medway Flames were also entered and placed in BCA and Cheer Technique competitions during 2003-04.
