Chatham look for Capital gains - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Friday 17th November 2006

Following their excellent draw at Fleet Town last weekend, Chatham Town face two tough home games over a three day period, writes Stephen McCartney.

Tooting & Mitcham United, managed by former Bromley pair Billy Smith and George Wakeling, visit Maidstone Road tomorrow, before league leaders Dulwich Hamlet visit on Tuesday night.

Tomorrow’s opponents are just two places above the Medway side in 12th spot, with two more points than Phil Miles’ side

And Miles admitted that he will be more attack minded when much-fancied Hamlet visit on Tuesday, as he looks to make amends following their single goal defeat at Champion Hill on Halloween night.

But Miles was pleased with his side following last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Fleet Town.

“We played really well,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk:  “We went up there with a plan as we did against Dulwich, played one up front and five in midfield.

“We soaked up a bit of pressure, they had the better chances than us but we did have chances but half-chances, and when Adam Douglas had a chance he took it and we got a deserved point.”

Miles admitted they face tough tests against their two South London opponents this week.

“I’ve spoken to a couple of people about Tooting and they told me they are a good side,” he said.

“Basically we’ve got two tough games and anything out of the two games will be a bonus for us.”

But Chatham are capable of pulling out shock results during their first Ryman League Division One South campaign.

“I tell the lads every week that everyone must play at their best ability to play in this league,” said Miles.

“Against Sittingbourne too many people were not on top of their games and they got beat.

“After the Sittingbourne game, the reaction from the players against Dulwich, Met Police and Fleet, has been fantastic.

Ross Finn is expected to take a place on the bench tomorrow, as he builds up his fitness following his knee injury, having played for the reserves last weekend.

Miles will be more attack minded when Dulwich Hamlet visit on Tuesday night.

“We played them less than a month ago and we went up there quite defensively with one up front, we were patient and worked hard,” the manager recalled.

“On chances we could have come away with a draw

“But that’s on their pitch, which is a perfect condition. They love to play football, the pitch up there is fantastic.

“Whether they can play their passing game on Tuesday night will be another question. I won’t be defensive as we are at home so we’ll be more attack minded.

“I honestly believe with the belief and ability we’ve got at the moment, I do honestly believe in the team that we could get points off anybody in this league.

“I think in this league it is definitely possible to beat anybody on your day.”
