Cable brothers are staying put, insists McMahon

Wednesday 21st February 2007

Thamesmead Town manager Keith McMahon has today announced that Danny Beszant and John-Paul Collier have both been released by the Kent League club - but the Cable brothers are staying put, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Mead were defeated 2-0 at Greenwich Borough at the weekend to remain in fourth place in the Kent League table with eleven games left.

Explaining why he’s released the pair, McMahon told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk : “It’s something that I’ve been mulling over in the last couple of weeks.

“It’s nothing personal, but in the interests of the team and after Saturday’s game, I felt that it was best to release them.

“They’re two very good players and I wish them well for the future.”

McMahon’s men welcome a Lordswood side that have dropped into the bottom five following Sevenoaks Town’s shock 4-1 win at Beckenham Town tonight.

But McMahon insisted former Faversham Town brothers, Rikki and Ross Cable remain at the club.

“The Cable brothers have not gone,” he said. “In fact, I am more than happy with Rikki at the moment and he’s contracted to Thamesmead until the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, Thamesmead will welcome Herne Bay to Bayliss Avenue for the first leg of their Kent League Cup semi-final on Thursday 15th March before playing the return leg at Winch’s Field, Stanley Gardens on Tuesday, 27th March.
