Burman unveils double signing

Tuesday 04th July 2006
Dartford return to pre-season training on Thursday with two new faces having re-signed striker Jay May from Ryman Premier League side Tonbridge Angels, and former Welling United, Angels' and Horsham defender John Farley from Heybridge Swifts, writes Stephen McCartney.

But having picked up long-term injuries last season, striker James Carter and midfielder Kevin Spriggs have had very good summers and are reporting back for pre-season training fit and well.

“Over the last two months things have been very hectic in trying to meet players from our existing squad and potential new players,” said Darts boss Tony Burman.

“Last season we started to put a squad together with some young and exciting players for us to build on in the coming years.

“The squad were very short on experience but you have to start somewhere.  But they have now experienced the ups and downs that football brings and would have benefited from this.

“I have asked all of last season’s squad to report back for pre-season training, which starts this Thursday, and I am delighted they have all accepted the offer and know what is expected when they report back.”

Burman told www.dartfordfootballclub.co.uk Darren Penfold looks like he is going to need another knee operation, which is a “major blow for him and us.”

Meanwhile, without official confirmation, Dartford are expecting an away outing on the opening day of their Ryman League Division One South campaign, as Thurrock, their temporary home before they move into Princes Park in  late-September, begin their Nationwide Conference South campaign at home to Salisbury City on 12th August.
