Bromley 1 Leyton 2
Bromley paid the price for not taking a number of good chances at Hayes Lane on Saturday with Leyton scoring from their only two shots on target and taking the three points back to East London.
Bromley started the game on top with Barry Gardner having an early free kick saved by James Hasell and Sam Wood hitting the bar with a wicked dipping cross.
The Ravens had several corners and lots of possession around the Leyton box, but didn’t really test Hasell again.
Des Boateng shot just over and Adrian Stone had two shots go narrowly wide while the visitors only effort on goal was a wild shot from Knight, which headed for Norman Park.
The second half started with Leyton scoring from their first shot on target, Richard Brady turning sharply on the edge of the box and finding the corner of the net on 46 minutes.
The injured Mark Willy was replaced by Joe Vines but before Bromley could settle it was 2-0 when a deep cross was headed back by Colin Luckett towards Andy Walker, unfortunately it was far too soft and Andrew Thomas nipped into score from 6 yards out on 51 minutes.
With Hayes Lane stunned into silence Bromley regrouped and went for it, within 3 minutes they pulled one goal back after Boateng’s low sot was deflected past Hasell into the net by Donal O’Sullivan from close range.
From then on it was all about Bromley hammering at the Leyton defence, which was well marshalled by former Charlton star Dean Chandler.
O’Sullivan headed wide from a Gardner cross, Danny Carroll headed over and had another shot saved before George Wakeling threw on Nic McDonnell and went 4-3-3. McDonnell immediately linked up with Carroll, but his shot was deflected wide, from the corner Vines had a powerful header cleared off the line and Gardner shot wide.
With time ticking on Leyton’s Mark Sophocleous was booked for taking to long to leave the field when being subbed and was then shown a red card as he finally sat down for dissent, but Leyton still had eleven men as the swap had been made.
Bromley continued to press at a more frantic pace, Wood sent a low ball across the face of the goal, but both O’Sullivan & McDonnell failed to get the vital touch.
With the game in injury time and Leyton camped on the edge of their own box Adrian Stone missed two glorious opportunities to grab a point blazing one effort over the bar from six yards following a Wood shot and shooting straight at Hasell with the other after Carroll had an effort saved.
The final assault saw a deep corner beat every one apart from Boateng at the far post, but his header was off target and the game was lost.
