Bromley's FA Youth Cup tie against Bedfont Sports Club postponed due to national lockdown

Friday 06th November 2020

BROMLEY have been forced to postpone tonight’s FA Youth Cup First Round tie against Bedfont Sports Club at Hayes Lane.

A FA statement said: “Following the UK Government’s recent announcement regarding the national lockdown matches in The FA Youth Cup involving a “non-elite” club should NOT be scheduled during this period.

“Matches in the First and Second Round Proper involving two “elite” clubs can continue to be played under the relevant elite club protocol.

“The developing situation will continue to be closely monitored by The FA and the competition will remain under review over the weeks.”

Bromley have said they “will continue to update supporters as and when we get information on the tie,” with the winners travelling to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth in the Second Round.

National League South side Eastbourne Borough were due to host Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side K Sports in The FA Youth Cup tonight and that game has also been postponed for the same reason.

Clubs at National League and National League South level have been classed as elite clubs and can continue to play their games behind closed doors, with clubs offering live streaming services online and received bail-out from the National Lottery to keep them in business owing to the Covid-19 outbreak and being banned from letting in fans into their stadiums.

Bromley welcome their National League rivals Yeovil Town to Hayes Lane tomorrow (15:00) in The FA Cup First Round, searching for their first win at this stage of the competition for the first time since 1945.

All FA Cup First Round ties are being played behind closed doors with extra-time and penalties settling matches on the day.
