I want us to remain in the top six as a minimum and pile as much pressure on those above as possible and see where it leaves us come May, says Bridon Ropes boss Mark Murison

BRIDON ROPES manager Mark Murison says he has challenged his side to remain in the top six and maintain pressure on the clubs above them.

The Ropes go into the New Year sitting in the top six in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table with 34 points from their 19 games – 14 points adrift of league leaders Rusthall.

Bridon Ropes came away from Crockenhill in the only game in the division that was played on Boxing Day.

“It was nice to get a win and another clean sheet,” said Murison, who was an unused substitute at Wested Meadow.

“We had a lot of players missing or away and it was great to give some chances to players developing well in our under 18s. They took that chance and the whole team put in a very professional performance to get the three points.”

Bridon Ropes lock horns with Phoenix Sports Reserves on Bank Holiday Monday, 2 January 2017.

“I’m looking forward to playing Phoenix as the last time we played them, it was a day to forget,” recalled Murison.

“Everything that could have went wrong did with us losing our keeper and a centre back shortly before kick-off, so we were forced to have a non-keeper in goal plus injuries occurred during the game and add a sending off it was not the result we wanted.

“I am looking forward to going into this game with a much more settled line up to try to get the three points and keep our good run of late going.”

Bridon Ropes have celebrated back-to-back wins and are going into the New Year in a good state.

“At the start of the season it was to improve from last season and challenge for those promotion places but after losing our striker, attacking midfielder and wingers from last season of which 62 of our goals came from to long-term injuries we have had to rebuild going forward hence why we have not scored as freely as last season up to this point, but we are strong defensively and have players growing in confidence in the forward positions.

“I want us to remain in the top six as a minimum and pile as much pressure on those above as possible and see where it leaves us come May.”
