Bremner opts to leave Folkestone

Saturday 19th July 2008

STRIKER Leigh Bremner has settled his future once and for all, opting to leave Folkestone Invicta to sign for Carshalton Athletic, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Robins’ secured their Ryman Premier League status on the final day of last season with a 2-0 home win over Kent side Tonbridge Angels.

Bremner, formerly of Cray Wanderers, had stalled on a new deal with relegated Folkestone Invicta, but Carshalton Athletic boss Hayden Bird unveiled his capture last Tuesday.

“The club are pleased to confirm Leigh Bremner as our latest summer signing,” Bird told www.carshaltonathletic.co.uk.

“He arrives as the Folkestone Invicta player-of-the-year and the supporters player-of-the-year.”

Bremner is not the only player that Bird has prised away from Kent, with midfielder Junior Kadi joining from their rivals this season, Dartford.

The former Croydon Athletic boss also explained the situation regarding Liam Harwood.

He said: “Liam has signed an FA Contract with Bromley and left with our very best wishes.

“However, the clubs are unable to agree a fee and with Bromley being unwilling to go to tribunal, Liam looks set to return to Colston Avenue.”

Harwood is due to go on trial with Bristol Rovers on Monday week.

Meanwhile, versatile defender, Nic Plummain, who was a regular with Fisher Athletic last season, could also move to the Surrey club.

Kent clubs may also be interested to know that striker Phil Ruggles’ agreement with Carshalton Athletic has been terminated.

Bird added: “We also hope to confirm one further signing within the next seven days. The squad will then be finalised and a full retained and released list will be published.”
