Blue Square Fixtures

Friday 03rd July 2009
KENT sides in the Blue Square Conference have today received their league fixtures for the new season, writes Stephen McCartney.

EBBSFLEET UNITED'S first Blue Square Premier game of the new season will be a trip to Moss Lane, Altrincham – their first away day encounter since the 3-2 defeat at Aldershot Town in 2006.

Stonebridge Road will host Cambridge United as the first visitors of the new season on Tuesday, 11 August, with Kidderminster Harriers following on Saturday, 15 August.

Unsurprisingly, Grays Athletic fill the Christmas holiday schedule. They visit Stonebridge Road on Boxing Day and return the favour on New Year's Day.

Eastbourne Borough provide the opposition for August and Easter bank holidays before the season gets wrapped up on April 24 - once again on the road, at Tamworth.

Liam Daish’s men will look forward to the league games against AFC Wimbledon and Luton Town.

AFC Wimbledon arrive at Stonebridge Road on 19th September before Luton Town come to Kent on 20th March.

The Fleet travel to play the Dons at Kingsmeadow on 24th November and the Hatters’ trip to Kennilworth Road is on 20th March.

DOVER
ATHLETIC kick off their first season in Blue Square South away to Maidenhead United.

That is followed by home games against Bishop’s Stortford (11th August) and Dorchester Town (15th August).

Whites travel to Lewes on Boxing Day and have a home match with Kent rivals Welling United on Bank Holiday Monday - August 31.

Chairman Jim Parmenter, who was speaking to www.doverathletic.com , said: "It's a tough start for us, going away from home - but at least we've got two games in a row at Crabble afterwards.

"There's some good sides in the Blue Square South and it's going to be a real challenge for the team, but it's one that Andy Hessenthaler and the boys are really looking forward to."

WELLING UNITED
will kick-off with a Blue Square South home match against much-fancied side Woking on the opening day.

Andy Ford’s men will then travel to Thurrock on Tuesday 11th August.

Stand out fixtures include their trip to Dover Athletic on August Bank Holiday and a Boxing Day match at home to Bromley.

Meanwhile, the Wings are searching for a new sponsor following news that their deal with E.Coomes has come to an end and will not be renewed.

“The club would like to thank E.Coomes for their sponsorship over the countless seasons and wish them all well for the future,” said a statement issued on www.wellingunited.com.

“The club are actively seeking a new sponsor and hope to announce one very soon.”

In other news, the pre-season friendly between Welling United and Tonbridge Angels has been switched to Sunday, 2nd August (1pm kick off).

BROMLEY,
meanwhile, will kick off their Blue Square South campaign with a trip to Worcester City.

The Hayes Lane club are delighted to announce that their official corporate partner, Glemnet, have agreed to continue their support of the club for the forthcoming season.

The deal will see Glemnet displayed on the back of all first team strips and it is also hoped that the continued support will allow the club to field a reserve team for the forthcoming season.

Glemnet owner Neil Linter, speaking to www.bromleyfc.net , said, “We have worked with Bromley FC for a number of years now and we are delighted to be able to continue supporting the club this season.”

He continued, “I know that everyone at the club is working very hard to make it a successful season and as a locally based company we are proud to be associated with such ambition. We wish Bromley FC all the very best for the coming season.”

Glemnet have supported the club since 2006 and this will be the fourth season the local telecommunications company have supported the club which has delighted Bromley owner, Jeremy Dolke.

He said: “It’s another gesture of support from Neil Linter and Glemnet, and in these hard times it is greatly appreciated by all at the club.”

Meanwhile, The Football Association has released details of 20 current Conference clubs who will each receive just under £10k for their share of the FA Cup Pool after reaching the FA Cup first Round last season.

The figure paid, is calculated from monies generated and paid into the FA Pool by clubs involved in replays from the 3rd Round onwards. This year the pay out is higher than it has been for a number of years and brought forth the following comment from Brian Lee, Chairman of The Football Conference.

"I am really pleased for the high number of our Clubs benefiting," he said in a statement.  "The number amounts to just under a third of our total membership and after the last few days it is welcome news for those Clubs involved.

“This season the figure is sizeable and can only be a major boost at this time for those who battled through the competition last October/November.

“Out of our 20 clubs, almost half played their football last season in the Blue Square North/South and it proves that those efforts in reaching the 1st Round pays dividends over which they ultimately have no control.

“Therefore, when three of the top four clubs in the Premier League, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all draw away and then stage home replays, the minnows who have long departed the competition have also benefited.

“Myself and our FA delegates from the Football Conference Board will ensure we continue to support vigorously the FA Pool system and on behalf of our clubs I express a big thank you to the Football Association and the FA Challenge Cup Committee"

The Ryman Football League are expected to publish their fixtures on 15th July 2009.
