We need to show fighting spirit and bravery at Sheppey, says Beckenham Town assistant manager Billy Walton
BECKENAM TOWN assistant manager Billy Walton says the club travel to Sheppey United as underdogs in The FA Vase Second Round tomorrow.
Sheppey United are sitting in fifth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected eight wins and two draws from their 13 league outings.
Beckenham Town, meanwhile, are only a couple of points and places below Ernie Batten’s side but Walton is playing down his club’s chances of winning at Holm Park.
“We are looking forward to our FA Vase game at Sheppey tomorrow, it’s a game that you want to be involved in as a player, coach and a manager,” said Walton.
“I think I’m right in saying we are the underdogs going into the game as Sheppey are a very strong team with a good manager and good players. They also have the League’s top goalscorer in their side in Dan Bradshaw at the moment.
“It’s a tough place to go and win a game at Sheppey as they are very good at home and also have a fantastic support there.
“They are above us in the League table and will be challenging for the title this season.
“Tomorrow is Remembrance Day so we need to show the fighting spirt and bravery of all those men and women who gave their lives for us. I’m sure our manager Jason Huntley will pick a team to do exactly that.
“We are doing ok at Beckenham at the moment. We have got a very good bunch of lads around us and the team spirit is great. It’s the best group of players I have personally been involved with since my Greenwich Borough days.
“I know this group of lads at Beckenham want to achieve something this season and staying in the FA Vase for as long as possible is one of them.”
