BECKENHAM TOWN assistant manager Billy Walton insists his side will handle the pressure of a title race.

Jason Huntley’s men came away from Erith Town with a 3-1 win in their last game and they remain at the top of the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 46 points from 19 games.

Corinthian are second in the table with 40 points from 20 games, Sheppey United are third with 39 points from 19 games, while Chatham Town remain in fourth-place with 37 points from 20 games.

Beckenham Town welcome Chatham Town to Eden Park Avenue on Saturday.

Scott Lindsey’s side won a game of high-quality against Sheppey United 3-2 at Maidstone Road last weekend, which was watched by a crowd of 927.

“What a great month of football we’ve got in January as we play Chatham Town, Sheppey United and Glebe twice.  All three are good sides with three of the best managers around,” said Walton.

“But we are not bad either on and off-the-pitch.  Our manager Jason Huntley is away for Saturday’s game so hopefully we will be ok.

“We will have to be at our best and we will, as a group of players, want to achieve something special this season and we have handled it well as being top brings with it added pressure week-in-week-out, which is expected when you’re top of the league.

“We want all of the players’ to play and be brave enough with the ball to play and I’m sure they will.

“You can measure a man’s character on how he performs under pressure and we have got a lot of it so far this season.

“We are hoping for a big crowd on Saturday as we will be holding a raffle with all the money raised going to Chatham Town’s charity (The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity) so please support it if you can.”

Meanwhile, if the two FA Vase First Round ties between these two footballing sides are anything to go by, we are in for another high-quality game of football on Saturday.
