Barnett maintains impressive form
LEE BARNETT was again on target as Slade Green played out a 1-1 draw at Vandanel Kent County League side Metrogas this afternoon, writes Robert Smith.
The New Eltham club are managed by former Beckenham Town assistant manager Billy Hughes and he has attracted several of his former players to play under him.
Slade Green had enough chances in the early part of this game to win this pre-season friendly comfortably, however, manager Matt Longhurst was still reasonably happy with the performance.
He said: “We played some good football out there today and passed the ball around well, but were guilty of missing a spate of clear cut chances early on, last week we took them (during our 7-1 win over Rusthall).
“However at this stage of the pre season preparation I am more concerned about the fitness levels of the players and these were very good this afternoon.”
The Kent League side were without Raphael Akala and two summer signings from Dartford, Dan Westerman and Jamie Lawrence.
However, another new arrival, former Faversham striker Ricky Freeman again impressed in the Green attack.
Longhurst’s side play two away games this week, at Snodland on Tuesday evening before a showdown with Thamesmead Town at Bayliss Avenue on Thursday evening to contest the inaugural “Chopper” Harris Trophy.
