Baldacchino: We need that lucky break to kick start our season - EXCLUSIVE

Monday 10th September 2007

Slade Green’s assistant manager Wayne Baldacchino has taken the positives out of the club’s FA Vase exit on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

First half goals from Joe Neilson (2) and Michael Smissen earned their Kent League rivals Hythe Town a home tie against Shoreham in the second qualifying round.

And following Slade Green’s defeat at Reachfields Stadium, Baldacchino is expected to make three further signings this week to bolster the experience in their squad.

With three goals conceded in the first half, Slade Green shut up shop in the second, but were unable to trouble Hythe’s goalkeeper, except for a couple of long range efforts from Jimmy Beauchamp, Adam Morrish and John Paul McKey.

“It was a matter of keeping the score down for most of the game as Hythe threatened to run riot,” Baldacchino said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

"But the Green lads showed good character and despite a difficult start to the season, the lads remain confident and show no signs of throwing in the towel at all.

“They continue to work hard in training and it is only a matter of time before we get a lucky break that will kick-start our season.”

One positive bit of news coming out of the beleaguered club is that a hastily arranged friendly against Sittingbourne’s reserves on Saturday, ended in a 2-1 victory for Slade Green.

That side was made up of a few players returning from injury, a couple of trialists and a few young lads, and Baldacchino added: “By all accounts they done very well.”

Slade Green, one of four clubs still searching for their first league win, travel to highflying Greenwich Borough next Saturday, and the former Erith & Belvedere coach added: “We go into the match in confident mood and it will be nice to meet up with our old friends (Borough’s management team).”
