BACKING KENT TO WEMBLEY: Borough handed away tie in last sixteen

Monday 21st January 2008

FA VASE heroes Greenwich Borough have been handed an away tie in the fifth round of the FA Carlsberg Vase next month, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Harrow Meadow outfit reached the LAST SIXTEEN of the competition for the very first time in it’s history on Saturday.

A last-gasp goal from their leading goalscorer Badar Mohammed sealed a deserved 2-1 win over Harefield United.

Their reward is a trip to Hellenic Premier League side Hungerford Town on Saturday, 9th February, with £2,000 in prize money for the winner up for grabs.

The Berkshire side, currently fifth in their league, claimed their place in the last sixteen courtesy of an 90th minute own goal from Boston Town’s Shaun Baker.

Hungerford substitute Shaun Terry whipped in a teasing cross from the left that was diverted into his own net by Baker to seal a 1-0 win for the home side.

VCD ATHLETIC, meanwhile, who play their postponed fourth round tie against Ridgeons Premier League leaders Needham Market on Saturday, 26th January, will also be on their travels in the next round if they get through.

Paul Foley’s side, with a five point lead at the top of the Kent League, will travel to St Ives Town or Bitton AFC, who play their postponed replay in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

United Counties League outfit St Ives are currently in sixth place in their division, whist AFC Bitton play in the same league - the Western League - as current FA Vase holders Truro City and at this moment are in tenth place.
