Back down to earth for FA Cup heroes Hythe Town

Thursday 28th October 2010
HYTHE TOWN crash back down to earth when they put their FA Cup heroics to one side and travel to  Lordswood in the Kent League Cup on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Reachfields Stadium is buzzing at present after the side booked their place in The FA Cup First Round for the very first time in their history last weekend with a 2-0 victory over Blue Square Bet South side Staines Town, a side who had reached the Second Round Proper last season.

Their reward is a visit to the Football League’s bottom side, Hereford United, a side yet to win at home in the league all season, on 6 November.

But reality has crept in and Scott Porter takes his side to Lordswood for a first leg tie against Jason Lillis’ side that are in their customary position in the lower reaches (third-from-bottom) in the Kent League table for a low-key Cup tie.

Porter is likely to rest numerous players, like he did against Corinthian in the Kent Senior Trophy two weeks ago.

“It’s back down to earth, but that’s what it’s all about,” Porter told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“Lordswood gives me a chance to use a few more players and that’s what I did (against Corinthian) as well.”

The mood in the camp is sky-high, but for 34-year-old defender Lee Shearer, he wants the players that do play to keep their seven match unbeaten run going.

“Back down to earth at the weekend,” Shearer told www.kentishfootball.co.uk, following the club’s sixth FA Cup win of the season.

Shearer, who won the Kent League double with Faversham Town last season, added: “This is today, next week is a totally different game.

“We want to keep the run going, keep playing well.  We’ve got to focus on the (Kent) League as well.  That’s the one we really want.  The FA Cup is fantastic but down to earth, the league is the one we want!

But you can forgive the players for having their FA Cup tie away to Hereford United on their minds and the club announced ticketing prices for the Edgar Street clash on 6 November (3pm).

Match admission, all to be paid at the turnstiles on the day is £15 for Adults (seated) and £13 (standing), £12 for 11-16 years old and over 65’s (seated) and £9 (standing), under 10’s all areas £3.

The club will lay on supporters travel at £17 (adults), £15 (oap’s) and £12 (under 18s).
