As long as we put in good performances we'll win more games than we'll lose, says Vickers boss

RICKY BENNETT says his VCD Athletic side travel down to Deal Town with renewed confidence despite his players showing their good and bad sides during the past week, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Vickers boss saw his side impress during a 3-0 home win over Greenwich Borough at Oakwood last Saturday but they struggled to beat basement side Sporting Bengal last night but were thankful to a 68th minute Daryl Wheeler strike to collect the three points at the inhospitable Mile End Stadium.
The Crayford based side leapfrogged over Greenwich Borough into fourth place in the Kent League table, five points behind leaders Erith Town, but with three games in hand.
“It will be a tough game but I’ve just said to them on the pitch before we came in, we’ve now got two wins under our belt, two clean sheets,” Bennett said following his side’s poor performance in east London.
“We should go to Deal now in a better frame of mind, mentally, and put in a much better performance.”
Deal go into the game sitting in the bottom four, courtesy of six wins and two draws from their 18 league games.
But Bennett’s boys are well and truly in amongst the Kent League title race as Erith Town, Herne Bay, Hythe Town, VCD Athletic, Greenwich Borough and Beckenham Town fight it out.
When asked about his aspirations, Bennett said: “Just to continue winning games really, put in good performances, better than tonight, that’s it!
“As long as we put in good performances, I think we’ll win more games than we’ll lose and finish as high as we can in the league, maybe get to a Cup final would be brilliant, absolutely brilliant, but there’s a long way to go.
“Who knows, maybe the writing’s on the wall?”
Vickers have been paired with Hythe Town in the two legged Kent League Cup semi-final, with the winners facing either Herne Bay or Corinthian in the final.
“I said to our lot, I’m sure we’ll get Hythe in the Cup and I was proved right,” said Bennett.
“We had them in the Vase as well and they deservedly smashed us at our place so two legs, it’s probably going to be midweek, I think, which may have a baring on the side on the night.
“I’m looking forward to it. Obviously we fancy ourselves against anyone over two legs.”
