Our main aim is the league so any results we get in these cups, we take as a bonus, says Ashford United boss Danny Lye

ASHFORD UNITED manager Danny Lye says he is going to make changes for tomorrow’s Kent Reliance Senior Trophy tie away to Gravesham Borough.

Lye’s men are sitting in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table, having won nine games, drawn four and lost four in the league this season.

Hosts Gravesham Borough, meanwhile, play one league lower in the Pain & Glory Sports Kent Invicta League and sit in the top four, having won eight, drawn two and lost two league games.

Ashford United are currently eight points adrift of league leaders Hollands & Blair, who claimed back-to-back Kent Invicta League titles before settling into their new surroundings in dream fashion.

Lye is delighted to go into the Second Round tie on a nine-match unbeaten run.

“We will change our team around tomorrow and give our young boys a chance to get some minutes and give a few boys a rest,” he said.

“The season has started to settle down for us now since the beginning. We had to have a clear out of players and get my squad together.

“We are now playing with more consistency and now play as a team. We are not about individuals and the boys play for each other, which is pleasing.

“We are aiming to keep the pressure on the teams above us in the league for the remainder of the season and know we can match any team in our league.

“Our main aim is the league so any results we get in these cups, we take as a bonus – but we want to win every game we play in.”
