Hopefully points will start to come and we can finish the final 15 games on a good run, says Ashford United assistant manager Gary Alexander
ASHFORD UNITED assistant manager Gary Alexander says he wants his side to finish the season on a high note.
The Nuts & Bolts have endured a tough first season in the Bostik South and fly over to Guernsey in the bottom three with 24 points from 31 games.
Shoreham occupy the sole relegation berth with five points in the bag so Ashford United will still be an Isthmian League side next season when Alexander is expected to replace Jason Whitmore.
Guernsey are a couple of places above Ashford United with 27 points in the bag and have lost their last four games to Phoenix Sports (0-5), Sittingbourne (0-4), Cray Wanderers (0-1) and Thamesmead Town (0-5).
“A tough away game at Guernsey, but one we will hope to go and give a good account of ourselves, having not won away all season we hope we can change that sooner rather than later,” said Alexander.
“Guernsey is a tough place so we have to up our game and have nine or 10 players’ at their best to bring back three points.
“I’m hearing a good number of Ashford fans are making the trip so we want to give them something to cheer about for the incredible support they show week-in-week out as the season goes on.
“We don’t want it to just pass us by and have some great games and tests coming up to show what we are capable of as we get fitter and add a few more faces hopefully points will start to come and we can finish the final 15 games on a good run.”
Ashford Untied have confirmed the arrivals of 13-goal striker Dean Grant and the versatile Will Thomas from Hythe Town, who have also lost Ben Wilson (Sevenoaks Town) and Dave Cook (currently unattached) after the Bostik South club asked manager Clive Cook to move to the boardroom to appoint former Herne Bay boss Sam Denly.
