Goals are coming from all over the team, which is always nice, says table-topping Ashford United boss Danny Lye

ASHFORD UNITED manager Danny Lye says he will make changes for their Kent Reliance Senior Trophy Quarter-Final tie at Whitstable Town tomorrow.

Ashford United have defeated Canterbury City (Cup), Deal Town and Corinthian 4-1 on their last three outings and sit proudly at  the top of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 52 points from 22 games, a point ahead of Crowborough Athletic, who have a game in hand and are 31 games unbeaten in all competitions.

Lye has added Phoenix Sports’ midfielder Jason Goodchild to his squad as he prepares for tomorrow’s Trophy tie against Scott Porter’s Whitstable Town, a side that have climbed up to seventh-place in the table, 10 points adrift of Ashford United on an eight-match winning run.

“We have a fully fit very strong squad to pick from for our Cup match away at Whitstable, so will use some of the boys who have not played as many minutes over the last couple of weeks.   This will not weaken us due to the strength of depth that we have,” revealed Lye.

“We have won the last three games 4-1, since our defeat at Sheppey and added Jason Goodchild to our squad.

“Jason adds plenty of energy, aggression and experience to our midfield, which now has Micky Phillips, Dave Botterill, Ben Davisson and Jason so we have good choices in there to pick from.

“Goals are coming from all over the team, which is always nice.  Seven different scorers in three matches and five from Shaun Welford makes us very difficult to defend again.

“I know Scott Porter very well so I know he will be looking for revenge against the earlier league defeat.  They will put us under pressure from the start and make it hard for us to play out from the back so we may have to be a little bit more direct than normal to suit their combative nature.

“We are equipped for the passing game or the long ball game so look forward to an game so look forward to an enjoyable match.”

Whitstable Town have confirmed that this game is subject to a 10:00 pitch inspection on Saturday morning.
