ASHFORD UNITED manager Gary Alexander has returned to his former club to sign highly-rated midfielder Sam Corne, 21.

The former Welling United and Braintree Town man has arrived from Bostik South East Division rivals Greenwich Borough.

Another former Greenwich Borough player, left-back Tom Carlse, will also be playing his football at Homelands Stadium next season.

“Sam Corne is a player who I worked hard to get to Greenwich because of his ability and experience having played many games in the league’s above,” Alexander told www.ashfordunitedfc.com.

“I’m delighted to say he’s back with me and I’m sure you’ll all join me in saying welcome on board Corney!”

Meanwhile, defender Jahmal Howlett-Mundle will not be playing for Ashford United next season after his club have sold him on.

He joined on loan from Kingstonian in February 2018 and was ever present as he made 13 appearances for Ashford United.

“We had put in an offer for him to re-join for the upcoming campaign but Kingstonian have agreed a transfer fee from a rival club in our league, which we cannot compete with,” said a club statement.
