Angels beat Crawley to sign goalkeeper Reed

Wednesday 11th July 2007

Tonbridge Angels boss Tony Dolby has secured the signing of a goalkeeper, a position that has been under much speculation over recent weeks.

After the long-term injury of Irishman Aaron Kerr last season, former Tunbridge Wells, Hastings United and Maidstone United stopper Matt Bromby, stepped up to shine in goal for the Ryman Premier League side towards the end of last season.

However, the signing of Matthew Reed, 20, could be the final piece in the jigsaw as the Betterview Longmead Stadium outfit aim for the play-off’s.

Reed has only just come out of the Football League and is considered by many, including his agent, to have extreme talent and potential.

He started out with West Ham United, taking a place in the Hammers under 18s squad until February 2006, when he was given a loan spell with League Two side Barnet.

On his return to Upton Park at the end of the 2005-06 season, he was released and signed for Bristol City in August 2006 on a free transfer.

Reed spent pre-season with Blue Square Premier outfit Crawley Town, but after an approach from Dolby, has decided to sign for the Angels.
