Ahwan suffers injury set-back

Tuesday 19th September 2006
Maidstone United travel to Worthing to take on Burgess Hill Town tonight, looking to pick themselves up from Saturday’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Ashford Town (Middlesex).

The Stones will be without influential striker Lynden Rowland (hamstring) for up to two weeks and fellow striker, Leroy Huggins needs a fitness test to see if he is fit enough to play, having picked up a slight groin strain during Saturday’s 4-0 first qualifying round defeat.

Former Tonbridge Angels’ star Ray Powell, meanwhile, serves his last game of his suspension tonight, so joint-managers Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume may have to do some reshuffling up front.

But Hume remained convinced he could pick his players up for tonight’s game at Woodside Road.

"It's a question of putting things in perspective,” he told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.  “We've had one bad performance and we need to put that to the back of our minds and get back on track.

”Two wins and I see us back in the top 3 of the league. However, Burgess Hill will be well up for this game tonight after their (FA Cup) defeat against us two weeks ago, so we will have to raise our game as well.

“I remain convinced we have a very good squad of players and that hasn't changed after Saturday's performance, it's just one bad game out of what has been a good start to the season and if we perform at the level I know we're capable of we will win tonight."

Meanwhile, Errison Ahwan suffered a setback in his road to recovery after pulling his hamstring again on Saturday.

Ahwan, playing his first game back from injury for the reserves, played well during the first half, but felt his hamstring go again during the early stages of the second period.

The Stones were informed by the Ryman League secretary on Sunday that tonight’s game against the Hillians has been switched to Worthing’s Woodside Road.

This is due to an ongoing issue with the floodlights at Leylands Park.
