Value for money, we're probably doing the best in the league, says AFC Croydon Athletic manager Kevin Rayner

Thursday 28th February 2019

AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC manager Kevin Rayner says he wants his side to end their campaign on a high note.

The club are in seventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 41 points from 27 games – 24 points adrift of leaders Corinthian.

Rayner’s side came away from Cray Valley with a 3-0 defeat in their last game last night and welcome Glebe at the Mayfield Stadium on Saturday.

“We’d like to pick up as many wins towards the end of the season,” said Rayner.

“We have lost a lot of players, money wise.  A lot of them to a lot of clubs in our league for money.  I can’t blame them. Some of them have gone higher to play football, which is ok.

“We had a good FA Cup run, the budget was ok until sort of October-November and we’ve not been able to attract the quality of player that we had, which is disappointing.

“But we’re doing alright. Value for money, we’re probably doing the best in the league.”

Glebe arrive at Mayfield Stadium sitting in fourteenth-place in the table, with 34 points on the board from 27 games.

“The target is to pick up as many points as possible and enjoy the rest of the season,” added Rayner, whose side beat title-chasing Chatham Town 1-0 last week.

“We’ve got some good games to come. We have done well against the good sides, the sides at the top of the table as we did against Chatham last week.
