AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC begin the search for a new management team after Jermaine McGlashan stepped down from the role at his home-town club.

The Mayfield Road based outfit suffered a 3-0 away defeat at newly-promoted side Erith Town yesterday.

McGlashan guided the big-spending club to a top-five finish in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South last season, having picked up 70 points from their 38 league outings.

The Rams beat Jersey Bulls (2-1) and Knaphill (2-1) both away from home in the play-off's to return to the eighth-tier.

“Today myself and AFC Croydon Athletic have decided to part ways,” said the 36-year-old in a statement.

“This time last year, to be appointed by a club in my home-town, sitting seventeenth in the Combined Counties, I’m so proud to have achieved play-offs and promotion at the first time of asking.

“The connection with the community and supporters throughout has been unreal from the second I stepped in the building and that is something I’ll never forget.

“The team is well poised to really kick on and continue to go from strength-to-strength with the exciting stuff going on off the pitch.

“To my staff and players, a massive thank you for all the effort and commitment over the last year.  I’d also like to thank the owners for the opportunity.

“I wish AFC Croydon Athletic all the best in the future and will be down to a game in the near future, I’m sure.”

McGlashan took charge of 48 games in all competitions, having collected 28 wins, five draws and 15 defeats with a 58 percent win ratio during his time at the club.

A club statement said: “After discussions between Jermaine McGlashan and the owners, it has been mutually agreed that the time is right for him to step down from his position as manager after just under a year at the helm.

“There has been a mixed start to this season but the team is still waiting for its first win in the league.”

Chairman Danny Young is now on his third management team during his short reign in Thornton Heath, having parted company with joint-managers Kevin Rayner and Lee Roots on 13 September 2023.

“It has been an exciting time and I want to thank Jermaine for his hard work,” added Young.

“He has worked tirelessly during his time with us and wish him every success in the future.”

Assistant manager Chris Zebroski has also departed the club.

AFC Croydon Athletic travel to Uxbridge in The FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round on Saturday 21 September (15:00).
