From our perspective we hope to finish at least in the top ten. Anything above that we will have over achieved in our first season without any playing budget, says AFC Croydon Athletic boss Antony Williams

AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC manager Antony Williams says he is targeting a top-ten finish for his unpaid team.

The Rams are making their Southern Counties East Football League debut this term and sit in the top-eight in the table on 28 points from 21 games.

AFC Croydon Athletic welcome a Cray Valley side to Mayfield Stadium that is under performing in the bottom five, having collected seven wins and three draws from their 19 league games.

“We go into tomorrow’s game on the back of two very good wins.  Our first back to back wins in the league this season,” said Williams, who guided the club to the Combined Counties League Division One title last season.

“This has done wonders for our league position.  We have managed to pick up four wins from six games now.

“A great achievement especially as we have had between six to eight regular starters missing during those fixtures.

“We are starting to return to full strength and hope to finish January on a high.

“Cray Valley have had a similar season to ourselves and will probably feel they have underachieved this season.

“We had a tough 1-1 draw at their place earlier in the year and tomorrow’s game will be equally as tough.”

Williams says he is relishing in playing the top two clubs twice between now and the end of the season.

“We are looking forward to the final three months of the season and relish playing Hollands & Blair twice and Greenwich Borough twice.   Hopefully we can keep that title race exciting,” he said.

“From our perspective we hope to finish at least in the top ten. Anything above that we will have over achieved in our first season without any playing budget.”
