People will expect us to win against Holmesdale, says AFC Croydon Athletic boss Antony Williams

Friday 19th February 2016

AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC boss Antony Williams says his side must not slip up against relegation threatened Holmesdale tomorrow.

The Rams welcome their Bromley-based neighbours to Mayfield Stadium sitting in eighth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table, having won nine, drawn four and lost 11 of their league outings.

Williams’ side defeated Erith & Belvedere 2-0 last weekend, courtesy of goals from Raheem Sterling-Parker and Callum MacLean in the final nine minutes at Park View Road.

“We went to Erith & Belvedere feeling a little hard done by not taking something from the Hollands & Blair game. We were well worthy of at least a point, reflected Williams.

“At Erith & Belvedere we set up to be hard to break down and disrupt their passing style.

“I felt we dominated the game for large spells and controlled the second half.

“We were well-rewarded with two late goals. It was a very good win on the road against a good side.”

Holmesdale are favourites for relegation and go into the game without any win in seven games.

Byron Beard’s side are 10 points adrift of safety, having won a couple and drawn six of their 21 league games.

“Tomorrow we host Holmesdale, a game people will expect us to win,” said Williams.

“These are always the game we come unstuck in.  We got hammered at their place and I will be looking for my lads to prepare and focus on getting back-to-back wins.

“We have a few missing tomorrow but have added to the squad too. I’m sure Holmesdale will be looking at now to start putting a run of results together.

“We must make sure it doesn’t start with us!”
