A frustrating afternoon at Hayes Lane for Bromley ended in stalemate and meant The Ravens would be heading down to Bristol on Tuesday night for a replay, writes Colin Head.

Despite the game clashing with England V Austria there was still a fair crowd in attendance and they helped create a good atmosphere for this well competed match between two sides experiencing good form in their respective leagues.

Bromley started brightly Barry Gardener shot wide following a good run and Allan McLeod also went close.

The Mangos most dangerous player was left winger Luke Prince but he was controlled for most of the game by excellent Sam Wood.

The visitors had their best spell of the match half way through the first half when they started to win the midfield battle and Bromley seemed to run out of ideas.

Just before the break Bromley came right back into things with Wood having a great shot from 30 yards well saved by Danny Greaves and he followed this up by repelling a Des Boateng effort.

The Referee Mr Sheldrake was far too harsh on Wade Falana who seemed to intimidate the Mangotsfield centre backs and was too strong for them.

The second half saw Bromley continue to dominate the game, but despite their heavy pressure on the visitors goal they just couldn’t get that vital goal.

Wood, Adam Locke and Falana all went close, but there was a nagging fear at the back of Bromley fans minds that they might be caught on the break and mugged!

On 73 minutes Bromley boss  George Wakeling made a double substitution bringing on Adrian Stone and Kevin George up front replacing Falana and Logan.

Wood went close again and Greaves saved well from Locke as the prospect of a replay looked more likely Bromley did get the ball in the net when Locke headed home from a corner, but although it looked like Mr Sheldrake had initially given the goal but with Greaves on the floor clutching his face the man in black then pointed for a free kick to Mangotsfield!

The Ravens threw all they had at The Mangos for the final few minutes with no luck and indeed they nearly got caught at the back in injury time, but the danger was averted thanks to clearances by McLeod and Colin Luckett.

Bromley will be the ones coming away most disappointed as they dominated for long periods, with five players out The Ravens could only name four sububstitutes including reserve team captain Giovanni Marino and without top scorer Nic McDonnell they lacked that killer touch in front of goal and Mangotsfield seemed well pleased with their afternoons work.
