Bromley have no Luck as they suffer embarrassing defeat

Ryman Premier League Colin Head reports from Oakside
Redbridge 3 Luck 58.64.82
Bromley 2 Awuah 31,80

Bromley were out fought and out played in an awful second half at Redbridge on Saturday which saw the home side secure their first league win of the season, writes Colin Head.

Making several changes to the side the Barkingside based club looked much better than their bottom place in league and were the equal of The Ravens for most of the first half, occasionally they did look shaky but there has obviously been a vast improvement since the arrival of new manager Allan Fenn.

Bromley started brightly and at first looked comfortable with their 3-5-2 formation creating early chances Nic McDonnell just stumbled when looking likely to score, Jones Awuah shot just wide when connecting to a Colin Luckett cross and the former Gillingham man also had a shot well saved by Richard Wray.

As the half went on Redbridge came back into things and pushed forward, but it was Bromley who took the lead on 32mins when Awuah turned in a Barry Gardner cross from close range after good work by Adam Locke and Des Boateng.

Just before the break Redbridge nearly equalised when Ian Luck got free in the box, but he blasted over.

From the off in the second half Redbridge dominated proceedings, they had a shout for a penalty turned down when Luck was pushed and continued to press from there.

Joe Vines made a great saving tackle on Luck, but the home sides persistence finally paid off on 59 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. Luck put his penalty away, but it had to be re-taken for encroachment, but although Andy Walker did save the second attempt Luck tucked away the rebound.

The home side continued to be on top and five minutes later Luck put them in front bundling in from close range after a scramble in the box.

Bromley finally came to life and for a while played some nice stuff Awuah had a header saved from a Mark Willy cross and he was on hand to score the equaliser on 78 minutes turning in a good ball by Gardner.

The good number of travelling Bromley fans hoped this might spark a further response and a challenge for all three points, but instead Redbridge were again in front only three minutes later.

Luck received the ball out wide and drove it in from 30 yards out, Walker tipped it onto the bar but it bounced in off for 3-2 completing the young striker's hat trick.

As time ran out Walker had to make two good saves from Ben Patten and at the other end Vines had a shot saved by Wray, but there were no more goals and Bromley in reality were well beaten by the basement boys who look to be on the way up.

The most influential player was Redbridge No.8 Bradley Brotherton who was outstanding in the holding midfield role and for Bromley neither Vines or  Awuah deserved to be on a losing team.
