More injuries mount up ahead of FA Cup clash

Ryman Premier League Colin Head reports from Lea Bridge Road
Leyton 0
Bromley 1 Tompkins 78

Bromley grabbed a league win in East London with their only effort on target in the entire match against a surprisingly poor Leyton side. There was a downside though, with injuries to Nic McDonnell, Tutu Henriques, Fraser Logan and Sam Wood, writes Colin Head.

The game was a scrappy disjointed affair not helped by Referee Mr Bushell who was over fussy and far too keen to use his whistle.

In between stoppages the home side had the first chance, but Joe Vines was on hand to hook the ball off the line.

McDonnell ran through on to a long ball and sent his lob just over the bar, but in doing so he pulled his hamstring and had to be replaced by Mark Tompkins.

Only seconds later Henriques went off injured and was replaced by Mark Willy. It took a while for Bromley to regain their shape, it was the outstanding Vines who kept things tight at the back and he also headed just wide from a corner at the other end just before the half time whistle.

In the second half Bromley pressed for a while Mark Tompkins shooting wide from distance, but as the game proceeded Leyton got on top and were first to every ball as the pressed, Shipp going very close.

George Wakeling introduced Wade Falana for Barry Gardner on 75 minutes and pushed Logan wide.

Falana's impact on the game got Bromley back into things and within 3 minutes The Ravens were 1-0 up.

Logan chased a long ball into the corner and played it back to McLeod who sent over a great cross for Falana who’s towering header hit the under side of the bar, the ball looked to have gone in, but Tompkins was on hand to make sure and bundle the ball into the back of the net past a floundering Andy Young.

Sam Wood took a heavy blow just before the end and most of the team appeared to be carrying knocks as they took the fans applause at the end of the game. Not a great game, but a good win and it kept the Hayes Lane outfit  in the top half.

Bromley entertain Southern Premier League side Mangotsfield United at The Courage Stadium, Hayes Lane on Saturday (3pm) in the FA Cup third qualifying round.
