No fireworks in poor Bromley display

Saturday 5th
November 2005
Ryman Premier League Colin Head reports from Scraley Road
Heybridge Swifts 1 Lee 32
Bromley 0

There were certainly no fireworks provided by Bromley on this November 5th as they were out muscled and out played by a strong and direct Heybridge side, with The Ravens only managing one effort on target in the entire 90minutes and desperately missing the inured trio of Nic McDonnell, Des Boateng and Allan McLeod, writes Colin Head.

Bromley actually started the game on top, but for all their possession they couldn’t find a way though the solid home defence and were easily knocked off the ball.

The closest they came was when a Barry Gardener corner was flicked towards goal by Adrian Stone, but Abbott cleared the ball off the line.

The Swifts looked dangerous on the break and as the half went on they started to dominate the match Hill shot over and Andy Walker had to make a couple of good saves.

Bromley’s only other chance of the half came when Mark Tompkins was fouled and Barry Gardener fired the free kick over.

As Swifts won the midfield battle they totally over whelmed Bromley and inevitably took the lead on 32 minutes when a quick passing move opened the defence up and Kris Lee fired home. Steve Potterill limped off and was replaced by Tutu Henriques just to add to Bromley’s injury crisis.

The second half was as dull as the grey sky above the ground. Bromley managed the occasional foray into the Heybridge penalty area, but nothing came of it.

Hill shot over for the home side on two occasions and Andy Walker was solid in the Bromley goal when called upon.

Wade Falana came on for Tompkins on the hour mark and made an immediate impact by winning a header and setting up Sam Wood who shot over.

As Heybridge won every tackle and pinned Bromley back, frustration grew and Joe Vines was booked was a very late tackle as another Ravens attack broke down.

Referee Mr Jerden did seem too happy to whistle for nothing challenges, but he wasn’t to blame for this defeat as some fans seemed to think. Kevin George came on for Adam Locke as the last throw of the dice and looked lively, but there was no way through and no efforts on goal as the game came to a disappointing end.
