Toms collects manager of the month accolade

WHITSTABLE Town manager Matt Toms has collected the Go Travel Kent League manager of the month award for October, writes Tony Rouse.

And the delighted manager said: "Delighted to have won this award after the great start we have had to the season.

"Although, as my assistants Marc Seager and Mark Lane keep reminding me, we have won nothing yet and there is still a long way to go until may.

"I happily accept this award on behalf of my staff and the players, who have been superb since the start of pre-season.

"We always said that in the past we have not started well and we were determined to put that right this year and this is a great lift for the players, the supporters and everyone involved with Whitstable Town Football Club."

Meanwhile, youth team manager Peter Budge was full of pride earlier in the week, despite his side going out of the FA Youth Cup at Luton Town.

Speaking after the 8-0 defeat to the Coca-Cola League club, he said: "It has been a great adventure to take the team so far, but now we need to concentrate on our league and domestic cups.

"I am extremely proud of these young players and they have all acquitted themselves well and are a credit to the football club."
