Whitstable ace snowed under

England under eighteen debut on hold for Aslett

Young Whitstable Town player Steve Aslett’s U18 England debut is on hold after the International against Northern Ireland was called off at just 24 hours notice due to heavy snow in Belfast, writes Tony Rouse.

Steve contacted his club captain Mark Seager as soon as he heard: “He is bound to be very upset” said Seager: “It’s a massive step up for Steve and the sort of chance every young player dreams of.

"He said the game should be rescheduled for sometime next month; he is an integral part of the 16-man squad and harboured strong hopes of being in the starting 11”.

Steve told the Whitstable Town website earlier in the month : " “I think I stand a very good chance of making the first eleven, all the selection games have gone really well and the whole set up is as you would expect at England level, fantastic”.

He is certainly enjoying a purple patch at the moment; playing in his familiar midfield role he has scored for both Whitstable senior side, (in the 1-1 draw against Maidstone last week) and in the U18’s game on Sunday and was looking forward to his England U18’s debut.
